Personal Experience

Tom is head of corporate and commercial law. He is a UK solicitor with a background in regulation and cross-border commerce. Tom’s practice areas include mergers and acquisitions, dispute resolution, as well as supporting new ventures especially in the areas of fintech and regulatory approval.

His skills lie is his broad commercial knowledge, his ability rapidly to assimilate complex structuring and his keen awareness of commercial reality.

Tom became a partner in Staploe Solicitors LLP where he has worked since returning to the UK in 2018.

Before this he provided in-house counsel to a company formation and administration group based in Hong Kong as well as working in Malta as head of corporate services for a leading law firm. He also has experience working with trust companies in the Isle of Man and Gibraltar. These roles have involved him working closely with the various governmental and European bodies as well as managing a portfolio of international companies, trusts and HNWI private clients.

During his career he has worked on highly sensitive and technical commercial cases together with leading UK counsel including disputes with the FCA and HMRC on regulatory peripheries as well as structuring funding deals with some of the largest home builders in the UK.

Bachelor of Laws LLB(Hons) and 1st class Masters of Legal Practice
with a dissertation in the regulation of fintech.
