Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are one of the world’s most popular couples. Today we focus on their collective successes, both professional and personal and also how they have overcome challenges together along the way.
The supermodel and her talented musician husband met in 2007 when Legend cast Teigen to be the main model in the music video for his song “Stereo”. The duo dated for four years, during which time they became a couple known and adored for their humble and light-hearted dynamic. After becoming engaged in the Maldives in 2011 the couple were set to be married in 2013 in Italy. Realising, however, that they would need a marriage license before the ceremony took place they rushed to be legally married in City Hall. The romantic wedding ceremony then took place at Lake Como which was a special location for the couple. Legend certainly tugged at some heartstrings when he played his hit song “All of Me”, written about Teigen, at the wedding!
The couple have been open about their desire to expand their tight-knit family with Teigen saying to DuJour Magazine; “We want a lot of kids. I would love to have three or four of my own, and then adopt a few”. The couple already have a two-year-old daughter, Luna Simon Stephens, who was conceived with the help of IVF treatment. However, despite the joy of the new addition to the family, Teigen has also spoken frankly about the postnatal depression and anxiety she suffered after the birth. Her motivation behind sharing her struggle was her wish for “people to know it can happen to anybody and I don’t want people who have it to feel embarrassed or to feel alone.” Testament to her strong character, Teigen has since suggested her postpartum depression will not put her off having more children; “Maybe I should be scared [of having Postpartum depression again], but I don’t know. It couldn’t be any worse than it was – could it?” True to her words and their shared dream of a large family, the couple recently announced they were overjoyed that Teigen was expecting their second child.
The couple have also enjoyed success in their respective industries. Legend began his career studying at the University of Pensylvania and has since not only gone on to collaborate with leading artists such as with Kanye West with the song ‘Blame Game’ and with Jay-Z on ‘Encore’ but has also received much acclaim for his solo work, especially his hit number one single “All of Me”. He also won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2015 for the song ‘Glory’ from the film ‘Selma’ which is yet another addition to his many accolades that include his Golden Globe and array of Grammy Awards.
Teigen’s own career has also gone from strength to strength. She has had campaigns with some of the world’s largest companies such as Olay and Nike as well as being heavily featured in Sports Illustrated with a special feature on the 50th anniversary cover. Teigen has also appeared in the pages of both Cosmopolitan and Vogue. The model, however, not only featured in “All of Me” with her husband but has also co-hosted the BillBoard Music Awards. Her creative skills are not just limited to film and music, however. Teigen also enjoys spending her time writing and cooking. Her culinary creativity led to her featuring on a Cooking Channel special in 2013 entitled ‘Chrissy Teigen’s Hungry’ in which she shared tasting her wedding menu with her now-husband. More recently, Teigen released her cookbook, ‘Cravings’, which became a bestseller and has also released a clothing line.
As well as sharing creativity and career success, the couple also share a generous and giving nature. Teigen recently left a much-publicised $1,000 tip to a waitress. Legend is also well known for his philanthropy as is evidenced by his partnership with Tide to rebuild communities in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He has also been spokesperson for GQ Magazine’s initiative ‘Gentlemen’s Fund’, supporting opportunity, health, education, environment, and justice. Legend’s passion for increasing opportunities in education is furthered by his role as board member on the The Education Equality Project, the Harlem Village Academies, and Stand for Children. Recently, he donated $500,000 to the Springfield City School District.
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s relationship is an enviable one. However, theirs is a story which also highlights that even in seemingly ‘perfect’ relationships, there are always challenges and difficulties and that the true test of any relationship is the power to overcome them together.
